The man behind Brandon’s story

Charmeljun Gallardo is author of the Ready for the World series, a heartfelt coming-of-age journey set in the vibrant backdrop of the 1980s. He draws on his Filipino-American heritage to blend cultural authenticity with timeless teenage struggles, resonating with both modern young adult readers and nostalgic Gen Xers.

Born into a U.S. Navy family, Charmeljun moved frequently throughout his childhood. This nomadic upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for different cultures, diverse communities, and the universal search for belonging — themes that shine through in his storytelling.

A graduate in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University, Charmeljun writes with authenticity, humor, and a sharp eye for the cultural details that make the past come alive. His characters resonate because they’re real—flawed, hopeful, and searching—just like the readers who follow their journeys.

Not Ready for the World

In 2013, Charmeljun survived a major stroke — an unexpected and life-altering event that turned his world upside down. The experience brought everything into focus: what matters, what drives us, and what stories still need to be told.

Writing the Ready for the World series became not just a goal, but a mission — to create something meaningful, nostalgic, and true. Through recovery and resilience, Charmeljun found his voice again — stronger, more determined, and ready to share it with readers everywhere.
